Please do

  • Leave clear space of at least the mark height on every side.
  • Use the dark lockup on light backgrounds and the reversed one on dark.
  • Scale it as one piece. The mark and wordmark are locked together.
  • Below 24 pixels, use the tiled mark. The favicon already does.

Please do not

  • Recolour the mark, or fill a different bay.
  • Stretch, rotate, outline or add a shadow to any of it.
  • Place the logo on a photograph or a mid-tone colour.

The mark is drawn on a 32 unit grid. The frame is a 3.2 stroke, the bars stop on its inner edge, and the filled bay takes the frame radius less half that stroke, so the volt follows the curve. The wordmark is Geist 600 in capitals at 0.1em, converted to outlines. Cap height is 44% of the mark and the gap between them is 28% of it.

    The inverted band

Volt is 1.2:1 against white. It carries words only as a fill behind near-black text, or as a glyph on a near-black ground. On a wide-gamut screen it renders 17% more saturated than sRGB can reach.

How volt is used

One accent with three jobs. What the colour is sitting on decides which job it has.

    The main button on a page, and the closing one. A volt fill you cannot press is a mistake.

  • the back of the store

    It underlines what you read

    A bar under a phrase in a heading. Nothing is lost if you miss it, so it may sit on white.

  • Brand

    99.98% uptime

    It glows on near black

    On a dark ground volt reads at 16:1. That is the one place it can be a small mark.

  • Never on its own

    Volt is 1.2:1 on white. It is never a word, a line you must see, or a state.

Counting, structure and status are not volt. They were, and the page ended up with six volt tiles and three volt rules competing with the one volt button a visitor was meant to press. The test is simple. If removing it would take information off the page, it should not have been volt.
