Shopify Markets
Also called: Markets
Shopify Markets is how one Shopify store sells into several countries, with local pricing, currency, duties and domains.
One store, several countries, without running a separate site for each.
What it handles
- Prices and currency per country, rounded to look local
- Duties and import fees, quoted at checkout instead of surprising the customer
- A local domain or subfolder, with the right language
- Which products are on sale where
What it does not touch
Your stock. There is one count behind every market, held at your locations as always, so opening a market does not give you more to sell.
It also does not ship anything. Cross-border freight is still cross-border freight, and it belongs in your landed cost thinking on the way out as much as on the way in.
Where it goes wrong
A market is opened because it is two clicks, and the first order costs more to ship than it earned. Price a market against real carrier rates before you publish it, not after.
The other one is duties left unquoted. The parcel arrives, the courier asks the customer for thirty pounds, and you have bought a refund and a bad review for the sake of a checkout field. That is worse on any sales channel where the customer never saw your site at all.
